| The city: Perugia is a fascinating city in
Umbria, the "Green Heart of Italy", located on a hilltop, surrounded
by olive groves and sunflower fields. It's an ideal starting point for
excursions - to the nearby city of Assisi, to Lake Trasimeno with its
beautiful islands, and to important cities such as Arezzo, Siena or Spoleto.
Rome and Florence, the Adriatic and Tirrhenian Sea are all within a two-hour
drive. The Etruscan walls, the narrow medieval streets and magnificent
buildings characterize this city of 180.000 inhabitants which has a
centuries-old university tradition. The atmosphere and life in Perugia is that
of a small metropolis that attracts foreign and Italian students. Perugia is
still very much a livable city - it's not too small and, at the same time, not
too big but big enough to have a variety of events that attract tourists to it:
'Eurochocolate' and Umbria Jazz being one of the major events of the year
attracting jazz lovers from all over the world.
